Ryan Slodyczka shares a heartfelt thank you and reflects on what being a father means to him.

In a message to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Ryan Slodyczka shared a touching note about how books are playing a big role in his job as a father to his two-year-old daughter and his unborn son.

I just wanted to take a moment to send this email to thank Dolly Parton for starting this program and paying for all the other expenses that I’m sure comes with it. Thank you, to you and your staff as well.

Getting a book once a month means so much to our family. I’m not sure who’s more excited to get the new books my daughter, my wife or myself.

My daughter will be two soon and my son is due in March. At times I find myself taking a step back and hoping I’m doing everything I need to be doing to be a good father. Often more times than I would like to admit, I get distracted, impatient, stressed and not the father I’m setting out to be. But every time I set her down or wake her up we almost always read a book. Small books, big books, colorful books, touch and feel books, any books. And it’s in those times I feel life is alright. I can feel her soaking in information. I feel close to her. I feel nothing but love.

Thank you for helping provide those special moments, because in those moments, holding her and reading with her, those are the moments I feel like a great father.

Thank you again.

Riley, Megan and Ryan Slodyczka
