Marking a Milestone Moment and Honouring Indigenous Voices in 2025
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has reached a remarkable milestone in Canada: the delivery of its 4 millionth book! This achievement underscores the program’s enduring commitment to inspiring a love of reading and expanding access to books for children across the country.
A Journey of Growth and Impact
Since its Canadian debut in 2006, the Imagination Library has expanded its reach to every province and territory, thanks to the dedication of more than 400 local program partners. These partners play an essential role in enrolling families, securing funding, and promoting the program in their communities. Their efforts ensure that over 60,000 books are delivered each month to children from coast to coast to coast.
Each book is more than just pages and ink—it’s a gift of possibility, imagination, and connection. By providing high-quality, age-appropriate books each month, the Imagination Library helps inspire children to Dream More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More®.
Highlighting Indigenous Voices in 2025
In 2025, the program continues its commitment to representation and inclusivity with a strong focus on Indigenous storytelling. Of the 70 books selected for the Canada Book Selection, eight are authored or illustrated by Indigenous Canadians—each one a reflection of the rich cultural heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.
Featured titles include:
- Freddie the Flyer by Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail and Fred Carmichael, illustrated by Audrea Loreen-Wulf
- On the Trapline by David A. Robertson, illustrated by Julie Flett
- My Lala by Thomas King, illustrated by Charlene Chua
- Mnoomin maan’gowing / The Gift of Mnoomin by Brittany Luby, illustrated by Mangeshig Pawis-Sketkley
- Métis Like Me by Tasha Hilderman, illustrated by Risa Hugo
- Boozhoo! / Hello! by Laura Deal, illustrated by Tamara Campeau
- It Bears Repeating by Tanya Tagaq, illustrated by Cee Pootoogook
- Mii maanda ezhi-gkendmaanh / This is How I Know by Brittany Luby, illustrated by Mangeshig Pawis-Sketkley
These selections provide children with stories that reflect their own lives and introduce them to new cultures and experiences—strengthening the program’s goal of nurturing curiosity and empathy through reading.
4 Million Books and Counting
As the Canadian program celebrates this 4 million book milestone, it continues to look forward with hope and purpose. With ongoing support from communities, partners, and families, the program remains focused on its mission: to inspire a lifelong love of reading in every child, one book at a time.
